the dailies with jena from modish.

I hope you all got a chance to peek in on the days of Alyson Fox, and today we're back with another fascinating schedule. Jena from Modish has kindly shared with me the ins and outs of the busy life of a shop owner/AWESOME blogger/giveaway queen. Enjoy, and thanks SO much for opening your life, Jena!

[Jena's organizer: a Jill Bliss Forest Coral Datebook]

"A typical day for me usually looks like this: I wake up around 6 every morning, but usually don't actually rise out of bed until 7ish. After some kitty cuddling and saying bye bye to my boyfriend as he heads off to a "real" job, I sit straight down at the computer and get to getting.

First thing I do is check my email, sometimes I can get caught up in replying for an hour, but on a "no, I'm being productive today!" day, I'll just let the replies wait and start blogging. I usually head to my "sites to feature" folder that I have in my inbox where I email myself links to things I like as I find them. Sometimes I wake up to an awesome submission just sitting in my inbox and decide to feature that right away. Sometimes I head to etsy and fall in love with something on the front page. Regardless, I search around and blog for a few hours at least- even one post, especially ones with big photo collages, can take a couple hours to compile and organize and what not. During this time I usually write out a little to-do list of other things I need to accomplish that day in my handy dandy Jill Bliss datebook. I have a stash of colorful markers to use just for this purpose to make all my to-do's look a little more "fun."

Once I've done a couple posts, I usually try to go back and answer emails for both my blog and shoppe. Then around 10:30 I realize that I'm starving and I break for some coffee and an eggy-cheesy-english muffin concoction or some oatmeal. While I eat I go to my google reader and catch up on other blogs (like DFM!) and see what's happenin'. Then I may blog some more, or make banners for people or just get lost in internet searching mode. I usually try to be done with the blogging part of my day by noon-ish. Then it's off to shower (blogging is definite pj work) and that's my little transition period.

Then, it's time for the shoppe work. I print out orders, or try to start putting new stuff in the shoppe, answer shoppe emails and catch up on the bookkeeping end of it all. Then around 1:30 I realize I'm starving again and I take a little lunch break. At 2:30 I'm back at it and that's when I start packing orders (try to only do that 3 days a week tho because it's time consuming) or taking pictures of new items for the shoppe or cleaning it up behind the scenes. That takes me well into the late afternoon and then comes a post office run if there's orders to be sent. Then the boy gets home. Then dinnertime. And if I still have a lot to do (which is at least 3 nights a week) I'll go back into the office after dinner and try to finish bookkeeping and shoppe stuff and can sometimes be up as late as 1-2 in the mornin'. If I've had a couple of late nights lately tho, I'll usually relax and watch a movie or American Idol auditions after dindin and pass out on the couch by 10. Then it's time to do it all over again the next day!"

Whew! I'm exhausted just typing that! Thanks for sharing, Jena! :)

welcome.

because beauty lies in the details of design. in the pencil shavings, in the blueberry waffles. the vintage dress, framed portrait, old postcard.

design is inevitable. celebrated. design for mankind.
