newspaper stand wenge.
I've had my eye on this newspaper stand for a good few months, just waiting for the sale price to drop down to something remotely reasonable.
Alas, it's not so, and I can't justify purchasing a stand made of PAPER that is the equivalent of 150 tacos, which could feed a small army of Caesar Milan's dogs, or better yet, Husband and I for a week.
DIY project, anyone? If you're crafty, come up with a way that I can make this for under $25 and I'll give you something TOTALLY awesome. I'm not sure what yet, but I'll think of something.
Let the games begin! Email your project ideas to designformankind@gmail.com.
welcome.
design is inevitable. celebrated. design for mankind.

Hmmm... It looks like the innards of a filing cabinet drawer, some nice linen fabric and a couple of dowels...

Oh, no idea but it doesn't look that difficult for someone as ingenious as you! I think Barb has the right idea!
Can't wait to see what you come up with!

great idea, DIYs are so much fun....you could probably get something similar at The Container Store (or at least the form) and then just add your own fabric.
...I'm currently trying to figure out how to make a magazine clutch, but all I have so far are magazine covers and a binder -- any ideas?

Barb/Kirsty: Yes, yes, yes!
Melissa: You are adorable to call me ingenius, and obviously a little off in the head. But thanks for the compliment, and have a fabulous weekend, dearie! :)
Jessie: NO idea. You're askin' the WRONG gal. But if you DO find out, sign me up! The idea is fantastic!!! :) - January 20, 2008 at 9:46 AM

I, too, enjoy the diy challenge but I'm not sure how to replicate the metal frame. Is that important or could one substitute another material so long as it had a similar aesthetic?

ok, now that I am thinking about it you can buy pretty thick wire at the home improvement store of your liking + dowels + linen or some rice paper (doesn't rip very easily - not for me anyway) = this stand. If I had time to take a lunch today I would be able to push this out in an hour!
