roadmaps: get organized.

Funny story. I used to think that Peter Gabriel song said 'Or-gan-ize' instead of 'In Your Eyes.' I'm not sure why, because now I realize that the two sound nothing like each other, but I digress.

All Genesis ex-lead vocalists aside, organization is so key when it comes to shaping a business (or not shaping one, for that matter). Cindy brought up a fantastic point in my last post that many of us created (or are creating) binders, notebooks and spreadsheets to prepare for weddings and various events--- why shouldn't we have the same resources for building a business?

SO, readers--- I'm taking action. Each Roadmaps post (if applicable) will come bearing gifts in the form of a PDF document. Feel free to apply these documents to your specific needs, and I'll do my best to make them as broad as possible. Utilize these--- how about setting aside a pretty binder (like this one!) to keep them all together?

Look for documents such as financial worksheets, how-to's, prep documents and pertinent questions you'll need to ask yourself prior to taking the plunge.

With that said, I'll keep you waiting for the next 'Roadmaps' topic: Creating a Life Plan. Stay tuned! If you're still craving some biz advice, visit Marisa's excellent podcast aptly titled, "On Money, My Story."

Until next time, love to you all.

On the topic of business organization: I encourage people to check out Billings software. I just started an interior design biz, and as a more creative, wordy person I have some, um, difficulties with Excel. Billings just makes more sense to me AND my iBook. They have a free trial, which is what I'm using currently, but I think I'm going to pay the $60. It just makes SO MUCH SENSE for hourly (or minute-ly) billing AND I can add products. Just wanted to share some of my new found organization. Thanks for all the info about business! I'm all about it.

GREAT TIP, ECHO!!! :)

Off to check it out...

YAY! Any excuse to shop for office supplies is ok by me. I think a tab called inspiration should be included for the e-zines.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter and the pdfs. Nothing like a little "assigned" homework to get things started.

OH Melissa--- you're so so sweet! :)

welcome.

because beauty lies in the details of design. in the pencil shavings, in the blueberry waffles. the vintage dress, framed portrait, old postcard.

design is inevitable. celebrated. design for mankind.
