the dailies: joanna goddard.

Yay! Another fine AM daily! Today's daily is from a reader fave--- everyone loves Joanna Goddard from 'A Cup of Jo.' She does lead the most lovely life--- gallivanting from mag to mag, pitching, designing, etc, etc. So before I start to hate her for ALSO being beautiful, I'll turn it over to Jo... [my thanks to you, dear Jo--- I am oh so jealous of your days!]
--
As a magazine writer, my days are really different. Sometimes I work all day, all night and all weekend; sometimes I randomly take a weekday off and go to the beach. Sometimes I meet with editors and photographers; sometimes I go to photo shoots; sometimes I write at home all day. But here is my day on Thursday, March 5th…

9--Wake up (waaay later than any other Dailies contributor)! It looks pretty and sunny out my window. Chat with my boyfriend Alex, advise him on whether a V-neck sweater looks weird under a blazer (it doesn’t), give him a kiss, send him off!

Starting at 9:30--Turn on my computer. My kittens climb onto me and promptly fall asleep.

9:35--I read blogs for about 45 minutes to start the day (one of my favorite parts of the day). Then I write for Cookie Magazine; do trend work for an advertising agency; pitch a story to Town & Country Travel, and email with New York Magazine and Elle editors.

11:30--A woman is practicing opera in a building nearby, and I can hear her singing as I work. My kittens continue sleeping.

2:30--Lunch--I usually forget about lunch until later in the day. I’m never hungry in the mornings, although I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Our fridge--which doubles as a gallery exhibit--broke yesterday and everything smells terrible! So I order two Burritoville tacos, which are delicious.

4:00--Feel a little lonely. Miss having co-workers.

4:30pm--Done for the day! Woo hoo! Take a shower, put on nicer clothes. (Or, really, put on real clothes. I often work in my pajamas, eeps!) Walk to the water and read magazines. Window shop at West Village stationary stores, browse at a local bookstore and tempt myself by trying on clothes at Anthropologie.

(Not-so-fun fact: I'm very claustrophobic on subways. I haven’t taken one for like three years, so I spend a lot of time walking and biking. And a lot of money on cabs.)

6:30--Meet Alex at a Chelsea gallery for the Marcel Dzama opening. Marcel Dzama is one of our favorite artists--he's Canadian and does very creepy drawings. This exhibit also shows his dioramas and a video with a pianist. My friend Josh Stein just got a tattoo of one of his drawings on his forearm!

8:30--Alex heads off to see with some visiting friends, and I meet my friend Colby at BLT Burger for dinner. We share a regular burger and a salmon burger, and also order onion rings and fries, which was too much, but it was so delicious!

10:30--Return home. Kittens are passed out on the sofa after a long, hard day of sleeping.

10:35--Check email at night (as always...I'm sort of addicted).

11:00--Alexei gets home. We chat, then I give him a kiss (I like to bookend my day with kisses from Alex) and fall asleep. A few minutes later, he takes this photo to prove that I always take up the whole bed!

Isn't she just ADORABLE?!!!

When I don't have class, my morning sounds just like this (except I'm not emailing New York Magazine!). I'll get up to read blogs and work on my computer in my pj's with some tea and listen to light music. And I almost never eat breakfast, either. I always start the day with a late lunch. This would be my dream life...roaming around galleries and bookstores during the day and writing at night. Thanks for this daily -- she's awesome! And I'd love to work for her one day.

Everybody DOES love Joanna. With good reason. She's talented, kind and oh-so-adorable. (She was the first person to leave a comment at my place. I'll always love her for that.) What fun to have this peek into her day.

welcome.

because beauty lies in the details of design. in the pencil shavings, in the blueberry waffles. the vintage dress, framed portrait, old postcard.

design is inevitable. celebrated. design for mankind.
